"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."
"I think education is a privilege."
—Australian Education Minister Brendan Nelson (1)
"Education is not a privilege, but a right for all human beings. For if we are to solve all personal and world problems properly and permanently, we need education."
"Knowledge is a process of piling up facts; wisdom lies in their simplification."
—Martin Luther King (1929-1968)
"Knowledge speaks, but wisdom listens."
"We speak our knowledge and the wisdom will come naturally as we approach the ultimate truth."
About this page
Here is a selection of the more stable knowledge humankind has produced for the 21st century and beyond. This knowledge is provided freely because as the Roman philosopher and former slave, Epictetus, once said:
"We must not believe the many, who say that only free people ought to be educated, but we should rather believe the philosophers who say that only the educated are free." (The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark. London: Headline Book Publishing, p.333.)
Knowledge should never be kept in the hands (or minds) of a few people. Education is not a privilege (2), nor should it be kept to ourselves. To truly help people for all times, you must share the knowledge with everyone. And it should be accessible to everyone freely (the eventual outcome for all knowledge). That is the great human legacy we must leave behind for anyone who wishes to achieve great things for others.
Like the food we grow and eat and the air we breath, knowledge of the stable and free kind is an essential part of human life.
